Cleared IT recruiting in Omaha, Nebraska

Omaha and Bellevue hold a strategic command and a large enterprise technology base.

Submit a requisitionSend your résumé

Offutt Air Force Base, south of Omaha beside Bellevue, is the headquarters of U.S. Strategic Command and home to the 55th Wing and the 557th Weather Wing, the National Strategic Research Institute is a Department of Defense university affiliated research center sponsored by Strategic Command, and the University of Nebraska at Omaha hosts a Department of Homeland Security center of excellence on counterterrorism. Union Pacific and Berkshire Hathaway are headquartered downtown, Kiewit and Mutual of Omaha are among the city's large employers, and Google and Meta run data centers in Sarpy County. Requisitions run from none at the enterprises to TS/SCI at the command.

The metro is compact, and Interstate 80 and the Kennedy Freeway link downtown to the base in a short drive, which makes Omaha one of the few cleared markets where the commute rarely decides a search.

Installations, agencies and employers that shape hiring in Omaha

The organizations below shape the Omaha market. They are named as facts about the area; none is a client of the firm.

  • Offutt Air Force Base and U.S. Strategic Command

Offutt lies south of Omaha adjacent to Bellevue in Sarpy County; the 55th Wing of Air Combat Command is its host unit, it is the headquarters of U.S. Strategic Command, and the 557th Weather Wing, formerly the Air Force Weather Agency, is headquartered there.

  • The National Strategic Research Institute

NSRI describes itself as one of only fifteen university affiliated research centers designated by the Department of War and as a nonprofit research institute sponsored by U.S. Strategic Command, affiliated with the University of Nebraska system, with more than 330 million dollars in total awards since 2012.

  • NCITE at the University of Nebraska at Omaha

The National Counterterrorism Innovation, Technology, and Education Center is a Department of Homeland Security center of excellence based at the university's Dodge Street campus, supported by a Science and Technology Directorate grant.

  • Union Pacific, Berkshire Hathaway, Kiewit and Mutual of Omaha

Union Pacific, the largest freight railroad in the United States, covering 23 states, lists its business address at 1400 Douglas Street, and Berkshire Hathaway is at 3555 Farnam Street. Kiewit, ranked fourth on the 2026 ENR Top 400 Contractors list, and Mutual of Omaha, an insurer and benefits company serving customers for more than a century, are among the enterprise technology employers.

  • The Sarpy County data centers

Google states that its Papillion data center was built in 2019 and its Omaha data center in 2022, that it has invested more than 15 billion dollars in Nebraska, and that it announced 1.2 billion dollars of new investment across Lincoln, Omaha and Papillion in 2023. Meta's Sarpy County data center broke ground in 2017 with an investment it puts above 2.5 billion dollars and supports more than 300 operational jobs.

  • The Omaha VA Medical Center

The medical center, part of the VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System, is at 4101 Woolworth Avenue and anchors federal health IT work in the region.

Commuting and remote work around Omaha

Interstate 80 runs 455.18 miles across Nebraska to the Iowa line at Omaha, according to the federal route log, and Interstate 680 forms the northern bypass of the metro over about 16.5 miles from western Omaha across the Missouri River. U.S. 75, the Kennedy Freeway, is the direct route from downtown to Bellevue and the base.

Omaha's Metro Transit runs local bus routes, MOBY paratransit and ORBT, its bus rapid transit line along Dodge Street, and most base commutes are by car from Bellevue, Papillion and south Omaha.

Command, intelligence and weather wing work on the base is on site, and the contractors around it follow the program's policy. The enterprise and data center employers offer hybrid arrangements for many positions, and a requisition should state its policy.

Clearance levels commonly requested in Omaha

Requisitions supporting Strategic Command, the 55th Wing's reconnaissance and intelligence mission and the research institute's programs ask for Top Secret and TS/SCI, engineering and IT support around the base asks for Secret, and the enterprises and data centers rarely require a clearance. Omaha's cleared pool is small for the size of the command, and TS/SCI requisitions are often worked with candidates willing to relocate.

Nebraska sets no posting-stage rules on pay or salary history for private employers, its ban-the-box statute applies only to public employers, and its courts enforce only narrow customer non-solicitation covenants.

Questions about hiring in Omaha

Which Omaha requisitions require TS/SCI?

Those supporting U.S. Strategic Command, the 55th Wing's intelligence mission and the research institute's classified programs, and the contractor positions that support them. Engineering and IT support around the base commonly asks for Secret, and the enterprises and data centers rarely require a clearance.

Do cleared candidates relocate to Omaha?

For the command's programs, yes; the metro's short commutes and cost of living help, and the submittal records a candidate's willingness to move. Recruiters Workforce works Omaha TS/SCI requisitions nationally and Secret requisitions from the local pool first.
