Cleared IT recruiting on the Space Coast, Florida

The Space Coast, Brevard County from Titusville to Palm Bay, is the launch and spacecraft market of the East.

Submit a requisitionSend your résumé

Kennedy Space Center is a multi-user spaceport with about 100 private-sector partners, Cape Canaveral Space Force Station and the Eastern Range are controlled by Space Launch Delta 45 from Patrick Space Force Base, the Air Force Technical Applications Center monitors nuclear treaties from Patrick, and the Naval Ordnance Test Unit supports the Trident submarine program at Port Canaveral. L3Harris is headquartered in Melbourne, Northrop Grumman designed the B-21 there, and Blue Origin builds New Glenn outside the gates of Kennedy. Requisitions run from non-cleared launch manufacturing to TS/SCI at the treaty monitoring and national security launch programs.

The county is long and thin, and a requisition must state whether it sits at the Cape and Titusville in the north or at Melbourne and Palm Bay in the south, because the drive between them on Interstate 95 or U.S. 1 is a daily decision.

Installations, agencies and employers that shape hiring in Space Coast

The organizations below shape the Space Coast market. They are named as facts about the area; none is a client of the firm.

  • Kennedy Space Center

One of NASA's ten field centers, Kennedy is a multi-user spaceport with about 100 private-sector partners and nearly 250 partnership agreements and a workforce of more than 10,000. Established as the Launch Operations Center on July 1, 1962 and renamed in December 1963, it manages the Commercial Crew Program, Exploration Ground Systems for Artemis, the Launch Services Program and Deep Space Logistics.

  • Patrick Space Force Base and Cape Canaveral

Patrick, between Satellite Beach and Cocoa Beach, is home to Space Launch Delta 45, which controls and operates Cape Canaveral Space Force Station and the Eastern Range and deploys resources for flight safety, range instrumentation and launch support; the station's launch pads include Space Launch Complexes 37B, 40 and 41. The 45th Weather Squadron forecasts for launch operations, and Florida was selected as the headquarters of Space Training and Readiness Command at Patrick.

  • The Air Force Technical Applications Center

Based at Patrick and assigned to Sixteenth Air Force, AFTAC is the sole organization in the federal government whose mission is to detect and report technical data from foreign nuclear explosions, operating the U.S. Atomic Energy Detection System, a global network of more than 3,600 sensors.

  • The Naval Ordnance Test Unit

NOTU operates the Navy port at Port Canaveral, supports the Atlantic Fleet's submarines and surface ships, directly supports the Trident submarines and the United Kingdom's Fleet Ballistic Missile program, and homeports the USNS Waters as the launch area support ship for submarine-launched missile testing. In February 2026 it had new maintenance and storage buildings for the Trident II D5 program under construction.

  • L3Harris, Northrop Grumman and Blue Origin

L3Harris lists its corporate headquarters at 1025 West NASA Boulevard in Melbourne. Northrop Grumman states that the B-21 program began in Melbourne, where engineers digitally designed the aircraft, that its Melbourne presence grew from six buildings to 17 between 2016 and 2022, that it performs E-2D Advanced Hawkeye design and engineering there, and that it has nearly 8,000 Florida employees across 17 sites, including a booster fabrication facility at Kennedy. Blue Origin's New Glenn manufacturing complex and mission control sit at Exploration Park outside Kennedy's gates, about nine miles from Launch Complex 36.

  • Launch providers, the port and the university

United Launch Alliance's launch operations are at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station and Vandenberg. Port Canaveral reported more than 6.2 million short tons of cargo and 8.6 million cruise passengers in fiscal year 2025. Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne was founded in 1958 as an evening college for early space program personnel.

Commuting and remote work around Space Coast

Interstate 95 runs 381.93 miles through Florida, according to the federal route log, and is the county's spine, with FDOT's District Five listing active construction on I-95 from south of Malabar Road to north of Fiske Boulevard, from south of State Road 50 to State Road 46, and from the Indian River County line to Babcock Street, along with work on U.S. 1 and State Road A1A. FDOT has designated Space Commerce Way, the road into Exploration Park, as State Road 321.

Space Coast Area Transit, 321Transit, runs fixed-route buses, paratransit and a vanpool program across the county with a standard fare of 1.50 dollars, and most launch, base and contractor commutes are by car along I-95 and U.S. 1.

Launch operations, range work, treaty monitoring and the Trident support mission are on site, and much of the aircraft and spacecraft engineering in Melbourne is in controlled facilities. Unclassified engineering support offers hybrid arrangements at some employers, and the requisition should state its policy and its end of the county.

Clearance levels commonly requested in Space Coast

Civil space work at Kennedy and the commercial launch companies mostly requires no clearance, with Public Trust for IT positions on NASA contracts. National security launch, range and treaty monitoring work at Patrick, the Cape and AFTAC asks for Secret through TS/SCI, and the Trident support mission carries its own requirements. Aircraft and spacecraft engineering in Melbourne asks for Secret, with Top Secret and special program access for the bomber and surveillance aircraft work.

Florida sets no posting-stage rules on pay, and the CHOICE Act's garden leave and non-compete provisions reach the senior engineers and managers whose pay exceeds twice the county's annual mean wage; the requisition summary should say whether such an agreement will be proposed.

Questions about hiring in Space Coast

Do Orlando candidates commute to the Space Coast?

Some do, to Titusville and the Cape along State Road 528, but the daily drive to Melbourne or Patrick rules out most. Recruiters Workforce sources Space Coast requisitions from Brevard County first and records each candidate's end of the county before submittal.

Which Space Coast requisitions require SCI access?

Those supporting AFTAC's treaty monitoring mission, the national security launch and range programs at Patrick and the Cape, and the special access programs in Melbourne's aircraft work. Civil space, commercial launch and most spacecraft engineering requisitions ask for Secret or none. The requisition summary should state the level.
